Sculptra Injections Face and Buttocks Volume
About Sculptra
Sculptra is a poly-L-lactic acid for the restoration and/or correction of signs of facial fat loss. Sculptra is a volumizer that has the important properties of stimulating collagen growth and production. It is injected below the surface of the skin into the areas of fat loss such as upper cheeks, temples, chin, and back of the hands. Sculptra stimulates the production of natural collagen, which provides a gradual increase in skin thickness.
Treatment Areas
As stated in the preceding paragraph, Sculptra is usually a full face or hand treatment. However, individual areas of the face can benefit from localized Sculptra treatments. These areas include cheeks, chin, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and the temples. Any area that will benefit from increased volume and skin firmness is considered a good candidate for Sculptra treatments. Sculptra treatment results will differ for each person. In a clinical study, the treatment results lasted for up to 2 years after the first treatment session, in most patients. Touch-up treatments may be needed to maintain the desired effect.
- Deep folds between the nose and the mouth (nasolabial folds) also called smile lines
- The lines framing your mouth (marionette lines)
- Chin wrinkles
- Buttocks

How Results with Sculptra are Achieved
You should know that the results from Sculptra treatments are not immediate. After your treatment, it may appear that Sculptra® worked immediately because of swelling from the injections and the water used to dilute Sculptra. In a few days, when the swelling goes down and the water is absorbed by your body, you may look as you did before your treatment. Sculptra takes time to gradually correct the depression in your skin.
Patience is important. The full effect of Sculptra injections may take 3 to 6 months to develop. There is also the need to do multiple injections, usually every 3-4 weeks, with the average patient requiring at least 3 Sculptra injection sessions of at least one vial per session to achieve a complete response. Patients with severe facial fat loss may require up to six Sculptra treatment sessions. Also, the total treatment benefit from Sculptra is not achieved in equal amounts with each injection. More correction appears with the final treatment of Sculptra than with the first treatment. It is currently unknown why this occurs. Approximately one month after the last anticipated treatment, re-assessment is necessary to determine if the desired correction has been achieved.
Prior to a Sculptra Treatment Session
Avoid aspirin or aspirin-containing products, unless medically contraindicated, Advil, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Vitamin E, Green Tea, Garlic, Ginko, Ginseng, and St. John’s Wort for a period of 10 days prior to the Sculptra treatment session. If you have an active skin infection or inflammation, Sculptra cannot be injected.
What to Expect During Each Sculptra Treatment Session
The length of the procedure typically runs 30–60 minutes. Makeup is removed, if necessary, and the area where the Sculptra injections will be given is cleaned with an antiseptic solution. A topical numbing cream is applied before the treatment begins in order to minimize any discomfort. Sculptra is injected in small amounts into the skin using a very fine needle. Multiple injections are required. A chiller is used during the procedure to the treatment area to help reduce post-procedure side effects. The Sculptra treatment session concludes with a thorough massage of the treated area to distribute the product evenly.
After Each Sculptra Treatment Session
We recommend that you ice the treatment area off and on for at least the first 24-48 hours.
Most IMPORTANT: Rule of 5’s: Massage the areas injected for 5 minutes, 5 times daily, for 5 days. This is critical to prevent the formation of nodules – we want to keep the Sculptra particles dispersed in the tissue rather than allowing too much collagen to form in one spot.
